Movie Review: "X-Men: Apocalypse"

Movie Review: "X-Men: Apocalypse"

by Wilson Kosasih

After the success of "X-Men: First Class" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past", this year we have yet another X-Men movie (prequel), and it's not as exciting as the first two movies. Fox once again screw MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) with their bad plot and un-interesting scenes.

First things first, i'm going to sum up the story.
Way back to ancient Egypt, where En Sabah Nur a.k.a Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) is betrayed by their worshipers and buried alive alongside his lieutenants, the Four Horseman. Years after that incident, En Sabah Nur rises and plans to rule the world. He then recruits Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Psylocke (Olivia Munn), Angel (Ben Hardy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) to help him rule the world. Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) gets some kind of visual about the end of the world and tells it to Professor Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and they try to stop Apocalypse with help from Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Scott Summers a.k.a Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Kurt Wagner a.k.a Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Quicksilver (Evan Peters).

After the failure of Fantastic Four reboot (2015), Fox once again fails to deliver another MCU movie. Those un-interesting fight scenes and boring plot to be a proof that X-Men: Apocalypse isn't worth your time. I mean, how can you screw up a movie with super-talented casts (most of them)? Well, Fox do, twice.

As i said earlier, the casts are super talented. Michael Fassbender shows how good he is, while James McAvoy nails his role once again as Professor X. But it don't combine well with the plot and other casts. Plot is way too boring and fight scenes are mediocre. Jennifer Lawrence lines feel too out of place, and forced. While, most of the new characters have no origin story considering on how long this movie is. This movie focuses more on un-important things that lead to disappointing ending. A cameo scene that makes people surprised at first, but that also doesn't help the movie itself. Stan Lee's cameo feels too plain, since his cameo in every Marvel movie is worth waiting for, but no on X-Men: Apocalypse.

This movie isn't all bad though, Quicksilver's scene always cracks people up, and soundtracks are on point. That's it, besides those super talented casts and soundtracks, everything else is mediocre.

For X-Men fans, get ready to be disappointed on this move. Boring plot, un-interesting fight scenes, long duration, and disappointing ending makes this movie a huge let out. In my opinion, don't waste you time on this.

As always, thanks for your support! Feel free to comment and stay tuned for another reviews!
