Movie Review: "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them"

Movie Review: "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them"

by Wilson Kosasih

Years since the end of Harry Potter saga, J.K Rowling serves us another epic magical journey. Will it be as good as Harry Potter?

Sets 70 years before Voldemort has a "crush" on Harry Potter, Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) is a beast researcher, as you can call him, tries to save extinct beasts and to learn them. But when he arrives in New York, some of his beasts get away and cause a havoc in New York. He then meets a former Auror, Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterson), who caught him and his Nifflers running around town causing racket. But when she wants to show her director his (Newt's) case, turns out it was switched out with Jacob Kowalski's case (Dan Fogler), a No-Maj (American's Muggle). Both Newt and Jacob are on a mission to collect 'em all. While Percival Graves (Colin Farrell) tries to use Credence (Ezra Miller) as he wish. Not trying to spoil anything, but both of them has something to do with the recent sightings of Obscurus.

First of all, story is weak, ain't nothing like the Harry Potter saga. It's reasonable, since this is this is an intro to a whole new series. It's just like 3/4 of the movie contain fillers and fillers that doesn't add up to it's story. But, don't worry, funny jokes from Kowalski (the only person with sense of humor) will make you enjoy this movie more. Moreover, i admire JK Rowling's imagination on creating beasts that are absolutely beyond this world. Some of them are combinations of some animals, but some of them are completely new and something you've never seen before.

This movie has some stunning visual effects that perfectly pictured 40's settings. From how people dress, it's environment, it's technology, and the most important thing, it's great lighting effects that makes this movie more good looking. There are too much questions in my head, but i'm trying not too spoil anything, because that will ruin your experience.

Overall, Harry Potter fans will absolutely love this movie. But as a non fan like me, it's story is disappointing, but we'll see how the next movies perform. "Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them" is now available at theaters near you!
