Movie Review: "The 5th Wave"
Movie Review: "The 5th Wave"
by Wilson Kosasih
Hello again guys, it's already 2016! Can't you believe it? Time flies so fast, and here we are with another movie review starring Chloe Moretz in "The 5th Wave" from the book adaptation by Rick Yancey on 2013. Although the book was highly praised, the movie wasn't. Why? Let me review it for you guys. (PS: I've never read the book before, so there will not be a book-movie comparison.)
First off, story. The story is another cliche in Hollywood, where aliens come to earth and try to take the earth from the humans, nothing new here. And in this movie, we watch/see it from Cassie Sullivan's (Chloe Moretz) perspective, watching her survive from the waves that the alien made, from earthquake to viruses, you name it and try to save his brother, Sam Sullivan (Zackary Arthur). It's not special, but like a compilation from those post-apocalyptic movies that have been released 10 years before. This is just me, but I feel like the story isn't so special.
The actors though, doesn't help this movie that much. Chloe Moretz was decent, but she really didn't feel my expectation, I was expecting like, more emotion, more realistic. She wasn't bad, but still okay, and she is the only good thing this movie has. And those supporting actors, their acting are so bad, and not showing any support to the main characters. Like Nick Robinson, who was playing as Ben Parish (a.k.a Zombie). His acting was bad enough in Jurassic World, but here, it was beyond bad.
I was like expecting this movie to be good, but it is not good at all. Cliche story, bad acting, and anti climax ending (yes i do know this is only the first part). One more thing, the visual effects were so bad, considering that this movie has a lot of budget support, the team could do it better than this. Overall, if you guys really love the book, you guys should watch this and tell me how bad it is.
