TV Series Review: "Sherlock Holiday Special - The Abominable Bride-"
TV Series Review: "Sherlock Holiday Special"
by Wilson Kosasih
Happy New Year everyone! I know i haven't been updating the blog, but now i'm back with another review, undoubtedly one of my favorite series ever, Sherlock. Before i start reviewing this, BEWARE that if you haven't watched the first three seasons, i suggest you watch it before going to this Holiday special.
Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and his compatriot, John Watson (Martin Freeman) go back in time to 1890s to solve a mystery about "The Abomidable Bride" where a bride who kills herself, raise from the dead and kills her husband. Months later, Sherlock received news about another five men were killed by the same bride. Sherlock then was approached by Lady Carmichael (Catherine McCormack) whose husband Sir Eustace Carmichael (Tim McInnery) was threatened with orange pips which has been mailed to him. I'm afraid that's all i could tell you guys about the plot, i'm trying to keep it as spoiler-free as possible.
The story is actually quite simple, but was brought on with long and confusing ways, not as special as the previous seasons. I could tell what will happens next, because of the cliche story. Truth is, i've been disappointed with this Holiday special, it's too predictable and not entertaining enough, could have been better.
As for the actors, i really have no complain. Benedict Cumberbatch plays Sherlock as good as i remembers it, and neither was Martin Freeman. The old-new casts combination combines perfectly with this Sherlock Holiday special. Although, it's quite predictable, you'll find some surprising moments at the end of the episode.
Overall, as a fan, i'm disappointed, but there are few good things about this Sherlock Special. For those who can't wait till 2017, it is a good time to watch the series from Season 1, i'll ensure it will worth your time. As always, thank you for your support, have a nice day and once again, I'm wishing you the happiest new year! Cheers!
