Movie Review: "The Revenant"

Movie Review: "The Revenant"

by Wilson Kosasih

Happy Lunar New Year everybody! Wishing you a prosperous year ahead! Today i'm going to review one of Leo's best movies he ever played, "The Revenant", which was inspired by Hugh Glass' true events. People have praised Leo's acting and he totally deserves an Oscar this year. He just won the Golden Globe's and Critic's Choice Award for Best Actor this year, his first Oscar will absolutely complete his brilliant career. (WARNING: This movie contains blood and gore.)

In 1823, a party of trappers in command of Captain Andrew Henry (Domhnall Gleeson) were collecting pelts and suddenly were ambushed by Arakira Native Americans. Many of them were slaughtered and Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) and John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy) were the ones who escaped. Glass then went hunting on his own and a bear attacked him and he nearly got killed. His friends then came to rescue him and on some point they weren't be able to continue, they had to left him. Fitzgerald, Bridger (Will Poulter), and Glass' half-native son, Hawk (Forrest Goodluck), voluntarily helped Glass went through his end of days. By some circumtances, they left Glass alone to die and Fitzgerald (Click for spoiler) and Glass wanted to take revenge.

The story of this movie is so cliche, to take a revenge against one certain people, and the story's built-up was to long, made some of the viewers sleepy .But there's so much more to praise about this movie. Like how good Leonardo Dicaprio and Tom Hardy's acting, they were brilliant. And that one bear scene, wow, it was so amazing that i thought the bear was real. And what's more, on how the director took the camera angle in this movie to capture the scenery, it was breathtaking.

And as i said earlier, Leonardo's acting was brilliant. He really deserves an Oscar for this movie. Tom Hardy wasn't that bad either, he was already a brilliant actor in "Batman: Dark Knight Rises" and "Mad Max: Fury Road". But here, it was a whole different level. The other thing, the makeup, it was very well done on little details like scars on the body, stitches, and bloods.

Overall, this movie is still an enjoyable one although it is too long in my opinion. But brilliant acting, beautiful scenery, great visual effects, and great make-up artists will make this movie receives so many awards.
